Hands of Time

I promised to post a photo of the fantastic give away for the open house (at least I think it's fantastic).  I first saw this print a few months ago and of course have been in love with it ever since.  The artist is Liz Swindle and it is titled "Hands of Time".

The photo says it all.  I have posted on facebook and on the blog several ways to be entered to win this beautiful framed print.  There is a story on the back of the framed piece about quilting and love that is just as precious as the photo.

If you know me you know how passionate I am about quilting.  I love being able to share this hobby with friends and family and meeting new people along the way.  No matter what curve ball life can throw at me, I can always pick up a piece of fabric and sew and the world just seems a better place.

Come to the Open House, meet old friends and make new ones.  Everyone is welcome.  I hope to see you on Saturday.

Bloc Loc Rulers

Time for another update.  I wasn't sure if these new rulers were going to arrive or not, but it appears they have shipped and will make it just in time.  So let me introduce to you Bloc Loc Rulers!

I was introduced to these rulers at the Small Town Quilt Show in a class by Melissa Corry of Happy Quilting.  Recently I taught a class on half square triangles at  Quilt Therapy Day and how important it is to square them up.  I know it's a pain, tedious, time consuming, etc., etc., but your projects turn out so much more accurate if your blocks are squared up -- right????  (I am just going to pretend that you are reading this, nodding your head and agreeing with me)  Well -- the new Bloc Loc Ruler makes this task fun, quick, easy, accurate and I could go on and on, but I will wait to show you at the demonstration and you can try it for yourself!

This is a picture of one of the many sizes of half square triangle rulers Bloc Loc puts out.  The ruler locks on to that diagonal seam and makes it so simple to square up.  Your ruler won't rock and slip .... and oh I just want to jump through the computer with the fabric and ruler in hand and just show you in person.  Come out and try one of these, they really will change your life and the way you view half square triangles forever.

Bloc Loc also puts out other rulers, for instance have you tried making half rectangles?  I haven't tried them, but these will also be making a personal appearance at the Open House with me and we can play with them together!  Doesn't this quilt look so cool and look at how accurate those points are!

This is a fun pinwheel quilt I found online which uses their half rectangle ruler.  A very fun and different twist.

And they also have a kite in a square ruler. This quilt is AMAZING and uses the Bloc Loc ruler. Woo hoo!  I might even feel like I could attempt this project.

Come out and learn more about Bloc Loc.  I will have rulers and a limited number of their patterns available. You can try these for yourself, no purchase required (that's my disclaimer because I know you'll want one or more ...)

This demonstration will be Saturday morning at 11:00 ... so just to recap ... here's the information.

Tiny Seamstress trunk show - 10:00 a.m.
Bloc Loc ruler demo - 11:00 a.m.
Quick Curve ruler demo and small trunk show - 1:00 p.m.
Missouri Star tutorials - 3:00 p.m.  (I will be demonstrating a quick and easy way to do a table runner or quilt)

There will be small demos throughout the day for other items.  Projects or blocks are made up for your viewing pleasure using Five and Dime, Spare Change, Lemoyne Star, and Missouri Star demos.

In addition, Antique Recreation will be there with some fantastic items.  How about some random give aways throughout the day, new fabric, clearance items, refreshments, fun, friends, laughter ....

What else can I do to get you out?  Oh yes, there will be one fantastic drawing at the end of the Open House.  You can get a ticket for the drawing for this by 1) bringing a copy of a flyer from one of the stores in Shelley, Rexburg, Rigby or Idaho Falls; 2) bringing the ad from the Jefferson Star; 3) sharing this post on facebook with your friends; or 4) any purchase of $30.00 or more at the Open House will get you additional tickets (i.e. $30.00 1 ticket, $60.00 2 tickets, $90.00 3 tickets .... and so forth).  A photo of the grand prize will be posted soon ... so check back.

That's about it for today ... off to finish quilting, organize, pack ... and try not to forget anything!

Open House News!

I am still busy sewing and quilting in preparation of the Open House July 26th!  I don't think my space looks quite this neat though ;o)

I promised to share, so here is more information.  In addition to the demonstrations and trunk show, I will have items for purchase.  Here is just a sampling of the items I will have available.

Fat Quarters.  Loose fat quarters will be available for $2.00 each!  You can purchase as many as you want.  There will be a large variety to choose from.  It's a great way to build your stash ;o) or to find just the right piece of fabric to finish a project.

Precuts.  I am a precut junkie and love the projects you can make with them.  There will be samples made up for display and lots of patterns that are precut friendly.  Boxes are packed full of fat quarter bundles, fat eighth bundles, layer cakes, jelly rolls, charm packs and mini charms for the trip.  Many of these are new fabrics released at International Quilt Market in May which will not be in stores until September and October.

Notions.  There will be a variety of quilting rulers for purchase to make your projects so much easier.  These are rulers that have been featured in my monthly Nifty Notions posts on the blog in addition to some new items.

Pattern/Books.  You can never have enough patterns and books.  I will be bringing some from new designers and you won't want to miss Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Company's magazine which will be available.  I am definitely a fan!  There will also be some great stitchery patterns if that's your thing.  If you have questions about precuts and projects I will be available to help answer them.

Clearance fabric:   I need to do some housekeeping and will have a few bolts of fabric on clearance for $6.00 a yard.  These are not from years ago, they are fairly current and include Moda, Riley Blake, and AdornIt fabrics.  Now that's something to sing about!

Quilt kits:  I have been busy cutting quilt kits in case that's your thing, and I have some really fun ones from these fabric lines:  Rocket Age, Sidewalks, Sasparilla, Down to Earth, Vintage Farmhouse, Witch Hazel, Splendor, Social Club, Chamberry, Grant Park .... and a few more.

Don't forget there will be drawings throughout the day for fun things like patterns, notions, and fabric!  I have decided to give away a fantastic prize at the end of the Open House.  Bring the ad from the Jefferson Star coming out on Wednesday, July 23rd, or the local shop where you might have picked one up and you will receive an extra ticket to be entered for a spectacular drawing at the end of the day!  Bring a friend and receive one more!  Make a purchase and receive another one!

Come check us out ... you just might find what you are looking for and now is the best time to start working on those holiday projects or anything else you might have a hankering to sew ;o)

So, I am off to finishing up, organizing and packing so I can head out for the drive to Idaho.  Wish me luck!

Quick Curve Ruler Demonstration

Wondering what some of the demos and ideas are going to be at the Open House on July 26th?  Well -- how about I share a few sneak peeks here and there over the next couple of weeks! ;o)

I will be demonstrating the AMAZING Quick Curve Ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful.  I have played with this ruler for the past year or so and recently had the opportunity to take a class from Jenny Pedigo and Helen Robinson at the Small Town Quilt Show in Midway, Utah.  Their ruler and patterns are amazing.  They have taken a tedious job of sewing with curves and made it quick and simple.  Their quilts are fabulous!

This ruler does it all!  Imagine a ruler that you cut curves with and square up your blocks all in one.   (Trust me every quilter needs one).

Hope you don't mind the picture overload.  I could seriously look at these quilts for hours on end.  Love the design and the quilting!  Visit their blog at http://sewkindofwonderful.blogspot.com/ for more inspiration.  Jenny and Helen have opened up a whole new world with the Quick Curve Ruler.  Whether your are a modern, contemporary or traditional quilter, the possibilities are endless.

The demonstration for the Quick Curve Ruler will take place at 1:00 p.m. on July 26th.  There will also be a small trunk show as Jenny and Helen have graciously agreed to send some of their quilts for me to share with you.  You are going to be wowed!!!

P.S.  Rulers and patterns will be available for purchase ;o)

Holiday Open House

Wow -- I'm really on a blogging roll lately!  (If only I could keep it up -- but I know what this month has in store for Olie & Evie).  And while we are on that note, I have a great big HUGE announcement.  Rumor has it word is already spreading around town -- that would be the town of Lewisville, Idaho -- that there is going to be a HUGE Holiday Open House.  Yep, the rumors are true, and here is the flyer to prove it.

So, there you have it ladies.  A Holiday Open House at the Lewisville Community Center.  There will be lots of seating and best of all air conditioning in case the weather is really warm.  And if it's cold, well an even better reason to come on out and join us.  Beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tiffany Jenkins of Tiny Seamstress Designs is going to WOW us by showing off her designs in a trunk show.  Patterns are great, but there is nothing like seeing the finished project in person.

I (Evie) will be doing demonstrations at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. (and probably any time in between that). You are thinking what is she going to demo?  Well, I hate to ruin the surprise, but I will be showing you how to use the Quick Curve Ruler created by Sew Kind of Wonderful that will change your life!  And if that isn't enough, I will be showing you some brand new rulers for half square triangles (and other quilting designs) that will change your life forever!  I am serious -- you will be really impressed and won't want to miss it.  And last but not least, I will be doing a fun demonstration for a quick table runner (or however big you want to make it).  And another hint -- I will have precuts for new fabric lines introduced at International Quilt Market that you won't see in stores until September/October ;o)

Quilts will be on display that I have made for the holidays -- and just for fun.  Okay ... so you still need another reason to come out!  Well, Danielle Andrews of Antique Recreation will be there with items for display and purchase.  If you have not seen Danielle's work you will want to find out who she is.  This woman can seriously take any old item and bring it back to life!  She is amazing and I am always looking for a project for her to do for me because she's that good.  So if you are in the mood for a new piece of furniture or some cool decoration you will want to stop by.

We will be at the Community Center from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.  So just to recap ... Trunk Show, demos, notions, patterns, fabric, quilt kits, furniture and decorations .... (and don't forget drawings and prizes)!

Okay I've put it all out there but I still have one more card to play ... my sister, Julie, has offered to help me with the refreshments.  Well that should start your mouth watering right there!  Cookies, cakes, who knows what else she might come up with ...

I think that's all.  See you on the 26th!

Happy 4th of July!

I am incredibly thankful when Independence Day comes around.  It is always fun to celebrate with family and friends, going to the celebration in little Menan, Idaho (town is small, celebration is huge), games, vendors, displays, parade, fireworks, etc. ... I have my list ready of items to pack up tonight to take home and it's growing line by line ;o)

But, even more important to me this time of year are my sons.   My oldest son, Trevor, a whopping 25 years of age now, is a member of the Idaho Army National Guard.  He (and his darling little family) have sacrificed greatly with their time and talents for our country.  Austin (20 years) who is now in the Navy, is attending nuclear school in South Carolina.

Where's your smile?

I can sew and quilt for hours on end, but there is never a day goes by that I don't think of my sons and how much I love and appreciate them.  They are two amazing young men and I am a very proud mother!!

Now that these pictures are out there for all to see and I will be one DEAD mother when a particular son finds out about this, I may as well offer a fabric sale.  It's hot outside and the last thing you may want to do is think about fabric but I have a great stash builder sale.  Visit my etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/OlieandEvie?ref=pr_shop_more and enter the coupon code "beattheheat15" -- it is good for 15% discount on your purchase of $20.00 or more.  Offer is good through July 7th!

I hope you have an amazing and safe 4th of July!
