Can you imagine!? As a shop owner and long arm quilter, it's a rare occasion that I make time to sew something for myself but this year I'm doing it. What little time I have been able to spend sewing has rekindled a love of fabric and some stress therapy. When Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life posted that she was doing a new Mystery Block of the Month this year I decided I'm in!!! I chose a beautiful fat eighth bundle of Nest fabric I had just received as a pre-release on Sample Spree and untied that pretty ribbon ....

And chose a couple of fabrics for the January Block -- Wishing Ring

The blocks will finish at 12", unfinished 12 1/2". I can't wait to see how this all comes together!! If anyone wants to join in, it's not too late. Visit at http://www.aquiltinglife.com/2018/01/quilting-life-2018-bom.html to get your free download of January's block. Choose at least a fat eighth bundle or scraps and let's get the party started! Send me photos of your blocks at olieandevie@gmail.com and each month I'll post the finished blocks to have some fun and see what fabrics you are all using.

Have a blessed day and find some time to do something you love 💘💘💘
I will be holding quilt therapy once a quarter -- with the first one of 2018 being in February! After posting on Instagram a giveaway this week and reading so many comments about why everyone love's to sew, I noted a recurring them -- it's cheaper than therapy! I am in total agreement. There is something soothing about playing with fabric, touching it, cutting it up, sewing it back together and seeing what you have created that is very therapeutic.

With that being said, I have reserved the Lewisville Community Center for two days -- Saturday, February 17th, and Monday, February 19th (President's Day) for some fabulous sewing time. If you haven't been to a Quilt Therapy Day this is what happens. You have a fabulous day with friends, fun, and food! All you have to do is pay a small fee to help with the rental of the community center ($10.00) and you can sew all day, bring a project or projects to work on of your choice (and the supplies you need), and don't forget a pot luck dish or item for lunch. On Saturday the doors open at 9:00 a.m. with a demonstration at 10:00 a.m. and we sew, visit, and laugh all day! There will have some fun giveaways as well as a demonstration on a new and fabulous product! Monday will be more of the same but we will have to finish sewing by 6:00 p.m. because Rhonda has to go back to work on Tuesday.

The demonstration this time will be a fun way of paper piecing using Cake Mix and Cupcake Mix patterns by Miss Rosie. If you've been in the shop you have seen this fun quilt created using a Cupcake Mix and Sweetwater's Authentic fabric.
This is an easy method of paper piecing -- and you can easily make all the blocks you need for a quilt in a day! I won't go into more details because you need to come and view this method for yourself and try it. I promise you'll fall in love 💕💕💕💕 There will be a sample for you to sew on with the quilt blocks being used for a charity quilt when completed, and more examples for you to see in person when we sew.

Here are some more photos taken from Moda Bake Shop of some additional projects made using this method.

My scrap pile is never ending! I make up scrap bags to sell, give bags of scraps to charity, and still have piles and piles. I must admit some scraps are extremely difficult to part with! I threw some away the other day and Jasmine commented "you're throwing that away! I didn't think you threw any fabric away." Does that mean I have a problem? Or is it my mind always thinking "I can make the cutest something or other with this."

When the Bloc Loc Log Cabin rulers became available, I decided I was going to start a scrappy log cabin. My bin looks like this ....

If you follow me on Instagram, you may recall I wrote a little post about this back in October at a quilting retreat. I am slowly whittling away on this pile of scraps, always adding more, and this is what I am making ...

A Scrappy Log Cabin quilt. 😍 Progress is slow, but when I pieced a few of my completed blocks together last night into sets of 4 and laid them out, I was tickled pink. I do believe I have another favorite scrappy quilt! Bloc Loc thank you for saving me. The beauty of the Bloc Loc ruler is that I can pick a strip or patch from the bin (and I don't even square it up or always have a straight line), sew it on, press, lock the Bloc Loc onto the seam and trim. I square up my blocks when I finish piecing them (I am making the individual blocks 7 1/2", finished square of 4 measures 14 1/2"). I sew, press, and trim -- and try to do as much chain piecing as possible to save a little time. I hope to at least have patience to make a twin quilt or possible one to fit a full size bed. This will be an ongoing WIP, but when it's done I will have some delightful memories of beautiful fabrics we have carried in the shop, other projects that were made, or even a piece of two from a scrap of a customer quilt.

I am using the Bloc Loc 1/2" x 1" ruler and my strips finish at 1". It's easy peasy and you should definitely get one to try, we have various sizes in the shop. I have attached a link to Bloc Loc's ruler tutorials so you can see how it's done. www.blocloc.com/video-tutorials-new/
Now I just need to get started on the project I'm dreaming up with the new Bloc Loc Pineapple Rulers we are carrying (hint -- it will have lots of red and green scraps).

Wishing you a week of happiness and success!
This fabric depicts it all. From Lil' Red, Grandmother's House, the Big Bad Wolf, whimsical trees, tulips and flowers, down to the mushrooms and blades of grass.
I hope you are all sitting down when you ready this post (mostly so you don't faint from the shock of seeing me post on my blog)! I often think of things I want to write and don't find or make the time. This year I WILL DO IT!!

Lots of new happenings including weekly specials, flash sales, fabric destashing (shop and my own personal stash) and new fabric lines discounted. I also have shop hours now if you want to come in person. Below are more detailed descriptions of the new happenings.

Weekly Specials. Each week I will be choosing fabric, precuts, fabric lines, notions, patterns, kits, etc. and will be offering those items at a discounted price. Whether you follow me on Instagram, Facebook or here, you will see a photo come up with the caption "Weekly Special". You can visit my Etsy shop, search for "Into The Woods" (or whatever the weekly special is) and see the reflected discounts. At the end of that week the prices will change. For example: The week of January 4, 2016, the following special is in place.

<span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">Layer Cakes and Jelly Rolls $23.95

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Flash Sales<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">.
I will have random flash sales that may only last a day or two, there won't be
much notice, and it will be an opportunity to purchase items at a discount for
a short period of time. As a heads up this time I will hold a flash sale
on Wednesday, January 13, 2015 so keep your eyes and ears open.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;">Fabric Destashing. <span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;">If you follow me on Instagram you have seen a
little bit of fabric destashing going on. I will be selling some of my
own personal stash this year. I have way too much and know that there is
never going to be enough time to sit and sew everything I would love to.
I will also be selling more scrap bags, end of bolt bundles, items that are
purchased on sale which I can pass on to you at a great price, etc.
(Free Spirit fabrics are a good example of this as I have several in the shop
for $5.00 per yard). The best way to see these items is to follow me on
Instagram. These sales will remain in effect until the items are gone at
which time the post will be deleted

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;">Discounted fabric lines<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;">. I'm saving what I think is the best news for last. With each new fabric line that comes in beginning the day it arrives, I will be offering a discount on yardage and precuts for ONE WEEK. (You are likely to see yardage discounted $.50 per yard from my regular price, layer cakes and jelly rolls marked down $1.00 each, and fat quarter and fat eighth bundles discounted). I will be blogging about fabric lines, precuts, items I have ordered here. In addition, in my Etsy shop I will keep a thorough list of the fabric lines and designers and the months the items are expected to arrive. This will help you "plan ahead" if you want to receive the discount. Rules are ... the day the fabric arrives the special starts. One week later regular prices will be in effect. Watch for the following:

My name is Rhonda (a/k/a Evie) and I was invited to participate in the "Around The World Blog Hop" by Karen of Laugh Yourself Into Stitches www.chezstitches.blogspot.com. If you have not done so already, please go and visit her blog and see how amazingly talented she is. Although we are not related, we share the same last name and I feel like she's a kindred spirit!

I don't do very well at writing about myself, but I can certainly talk about FABRIC all day (and night). I LOVE fabric ... I love it so much that I went into the business of fabric in 2013. I have a website here www.olieevie.com. As for my blog, I try to post a few pictures of projects I am working on, items I carry in my shop, events, and I like to share notions from time-to-time that I run across that make quilting faster, more accurate, and keep me from going bald!

I have two sons who both serve our country via the Army National Guard and Navy (they are pretty special to me for many reasons), one absolutely beautiful [inside and out] daughter in law, and two of the most adorable grandchildren a grandma could have (#3 will be here in about 8 weeks)!!! They call me Grandma Ronnie ;o)

Besides doing long arm quilting, running my online quilt shop, and being a mom and grandma, I also have a full time job as a legal secretary (for the greatest attorneys in the world)! I stay busy and could really use more hours in a day. When I'm not at work you will find me at my long arm, sewing machine, or filling orders. (I don't have a husband, so don't worry there isn't one to neglect)! ;o)

WHAT I AM WORKING ON

It might be easier to answer this by asking what I am not working on. When you love fabric and patterns, and you look at all of the beautiful projects out there in the online world, you want to make them all! I probably have the fabric to do it too!

I will keep my list of projects to a minimum (I know your time is precious). First of all, I am participating in the Farmer's Wife Quilt Revival (I grew up on a farm, just another tidbit of information about me). I am using the fabric line "Persimmon" by Basic Grey for my blocks. You can find more information about this quilt along at www.chezstitches.blogspot.com

I don't think that anything I do is different. I look at quilting as a learning experience and I will never know it all. I try to learn as much as I can by taking a class whether in person or online. Quilting has been around for generations. In our era, I feel privileged to be able to enjoy an abundance of beautiful fabrics and patterns, not to mention the convenience of modern day technology and amazingly talented woman (and men) who come up with methods that make it painless to quilt. Where would we be without You Tube, Craftsy, Jenny Doan, Sew Kind of Wonderful .... and the list goes on and on!

WHY DO I WRITE/CREATE WHAT I DO

This might be the easiest question for me to answer -- PASSION! I am passionate about fabric -- the look and feel of it, cutting it up and sewing it back together and seeing what transforms! It's really amazing. I love sharing my passion with others. In the small amount of teaching I have done the most important thing I have tried to express is "MAKE IT YOUR OWN"! Your project doesn't have to be just like the sample, model or picture. It needs to be you and express you. I am getting into the groove of playing with different background fabrics to create different looks. I like that you can use a creamy color to create the look of a vintage quilt. I like to use scraps up and have lots and lots of them. These quilts were made from bits and pieces of leftovers from previous projects. I had a lot of fun playing with them!

A couple of years ago some friends asked me to create some quilts for them for family members for Christmas. They brought me the fabric and my creative juices started flowing. Although I had dabbled in trying to do some original designs (photos above), it was the winter of 2012 that helped me realize that I wanted to share my passion even more. I started teaching some classes and have written a pattern or two.

The process is that there is no process. I can be driving, sewing, reading, or typing and an idea comes to me, I pull a paper aside and doodle and it eventually gets put in the folder with the others waiting for me to open it up and get back to it in the future! It would be nice to have the time to sort, organize, and spend time creating and writing them all up ... it's kind of my SOME DAY I will get to it pile.

I feel very fortunate to have the ability to do what I love. I donate my time and materials for charity work. One charity that I quilt and sew for is Quilts of Valor. You can get more information about that program here. http://www.qovf.org/ In addition I have donated quilts for auctions or to help raise funds for a charities or organizations I believe in and would encourage each of you to do the same. You and I both know that there is nothing like having a soft, warm quilt to wrap up in!

Come back next week and I will have a link to at least one blog, hopefully more, that will be sharing their ideas and designs with you and so on and so forth. Thanks for taking the time to read this post. I welcome comments and ideas!

When I spend hours looking at prints, designs, colors, it isn't long before I go into information overload. However, I have been waiting for these new arrivals for several weeks now and I am pleased to announce (drum roll here ....) I have expanded with the addition of some new fabric lines from Free Spirit/Rowan Fabrics.

Denyse Schmidt draws much of the inspiration for her fabric collections from the nostalgic charm of her native New England, and Hadley – her latest collection for FreeSpirit – is no exception. Pastoral Hadley has puritan roots with a streak of independence. Elegant and spirited, Hadley embodies the assured style and ladylike grace of a Seven Sisters college co-ed. Showcasing smart, pretty florals, confident plaids, directional prints, and universally useful calicos, Hadley works well for all quilting and crafting needs. Plenty of “low-volume” prints and vibrant accents make it a cinch to create modern quilts with a vintage scrappy feel. Mix them with DS Modern Solid Pre-cuts (Denyse’s curated selection of FreeSpirit Designer Solids) for more contrast and distinctive flair. Hadley features nine designs in three beautiful color ways – Chinese Lantern, Sunflower, Hydrangea – for a total of 26 quilting cottons.

The fabrics and selections are beautiful, I could sit and read these ladies posts forever (I think) and not get a single project of my own done! <strike>(wait, I don't anyway).</strike> It makes me want to make one project out of every single item I have in my shop (and I do have a new granddaughter due to arrive in November). Let me share a few pictures, and hopefully, you will find some time to go and visit a few of these shops on your own.

I am participating in a new Quilt Along beginning September 4, 2014 for the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt. I have had this book for some time, and have not sewn even one block (although I look at the book frequently and see other people post absolutely gorgeous pictures of their finished quilts online). This will be my first time actually committing to a quilt along. I am excited to learn new methods for rotary cutting and piecing these blocks -- and I am really, really, going to try to make a large quilt (all 111 blocks)! I might need some encouragement and I will most surely need a supply Diet Dr. Pepper and chocolate ...

Here is more information if you would care to join in. Karen Walker of chezstitches.blogspot.com is my contact for this quilt along. She says:

This group was created for quilters who would like to tackle Laurie Aaron Hird's book 'The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt'. The book is designed using templates and hand piecing methods....we will NOT be using those methods in this group. We will be using modern rotary cutting and piecing techniques provided by Karen M. Walker of laugh yourself into Stitches*. There are 12 lessons in all and each lesson costs $8.50. Included in Karen's 12 Classes or 'lessons' are time saving quilting techniques and additional quilt patterns to make smaller quilts with your Farmer's Wife blocks if you choose not to make all 111. You do not have to commit to all 12 Classes. For more information about Karen's classes, visit her blog here: www.chezstitches.blogspot.com or join the Facebook group established to make the Farmer's Wife Quilt using Karen's instructions. The sew-along begins September 4th. www.facebook.com/groups/modernfarmerswife/

Karen's modern piecing techniques include The Magic 8, Paper Piecing, Triple Triangles and much more! The class will strengthen one's piecing techniques; take the intimidation out of making 6 1/2" blocks and enhance one's quilting skills. Designed for a Strong beginner with competent skills in cutting, stitching a quarter inch seam allowance, competent understanding of quilt terms and the desire to learn.

The last time I wrote was just prior to my Open House in Idaho. Congratulations to Vicky Sauer who was the winner of the Hands of Time print that was the big give away. I must also express many thank to all of you who helped make the Open House a success -- Jasmine and my grandkids, Janeale, Debbie, Barb, Shannon, Diana, Tiffany, and Danielle. You all played a large part in the success of the Open House and I could not have done it without you.

I had great intentions for posts following the Open House and new items continue to arrive ... but the past few weeks have provided some health setbacks with surgery and complications ensuing. I am, however, doing a little better every day and am determined to get that energy back. I so long to be able to get my customer quilting caught up and do some sewing.

So, without further adieu, let's get caught up on what's happening at Olie & Evie.
I'm kind of a fat quarter junkie and decided to order this new book and see what it had to offer. I'm hooked! This is a fantastic book to add to your collection. It contains patterns for 12 different projects using fat quarters. I think the best part is that it provides Fabric Requirements, Cutting Instructions and Quilt Layouts for 4 different size quilts for each pattern (Crib, Twin Lap and Queen). How awesome is that! Great instructions and beautiful photos throughout the book.

I first saw this print a few months ago and of course have been in love with it ever since. The artist is Liz Swindle and it is titled "Hands of Time".

The photo says it all. I have posted on facebook and on the blog several ways to be entered to win this beautiful framed print. There is a story on the back of the framed piece about quilting and love that is just as precious as the photo.

If you know me you know how passionate I am about quilting. I love being able to share this hobby with friends and family and meeting new people along the way. No matter what curve ball life can throw at me, I can always pick up a piece of fabric and sew and the world just seems a better place.

Come to the Open House, meet old friends and make new ones. Everyone is welcome. I hope to see you on Saturday.
I wasn't sure if these new rulers were going to arrive or not, but it appears they have shipped and will make it just in time. So let me introduce to you Bloc Loc Rulers!

I was introduced to these rulers at the Small Town Quilt Show in a class by Melissa Corry of Happy Quilting. Recently I taught a class on half square triangles at Quilt Therapy Day and how important it is to square them up. I know it's a pain, tedious, time consuming, etc., etc., but your projects turn out so much more accurate if your blocks are squared up -- right???? (I am just going to pretend that you are reading this, nodding your head and agreeing with me) Well -- the new Bloc Loc Ruler makes this task fun, quick, easy, accurate and I could go on and on, but I will wait to show you at the demonstration and you can try it for yourself!

This is a picture of one of the many sizes of half square triangle rulers Bloc Loc puts out. The ruler locks on to that diagonal seam and makes it so simple to square up. Your ruler won't rock and slip .... and oh I just want to jump through the computer with the fabric and ruler in hand and just show you in person. Come out and try one of these, they really will change your life and the way you view half square triangles forever.

Bloc Loc also puts out other rulers, for instance have you tried making half rectangles? I haven't tried them, but these will also be making a personal appearance at the Open House with me and we can play with them together! Doesn't this quilt look so cool and look at how accurate those points are!
Come out and learn more about Bloc Loc. I will have rulers and a limited number of their patterns available. You can try these for yourself, no purchase required (that's my disclaimer because I know you'll want one or more ...)

This demonstration will be Saturday morning at 11:00 ... so just to recap ... here's the information.
I am still busy sewing and quilting in preparation of the Open House July 26th! I don't think my space looks quite this neat though ;o)

I promised to share, so here is more information. In addition to the demonstrations and trunk show, I will have items for purchase. Here is just a sampling of the items I will have available.

Fat Quarters. Loose fat quarters will be available for $2.00 each! You can purchase as many as you want. There will be a large variety to choose from. It's a great way to build your stash ;o) or to find just the right piece of fabric to finish a project.

Precuts. I am a precut junkie and love the projects you can make with them. There will be samples made up for display and lots of patterns that are precut friendly. Boxes are packed full of fat quarter bundles, fat eighth bundles, layer cakes, jelly rolls, charm packs and mini charms for the trip. Many of these are new fabrics released at International Quilt Market in May which will not be in stores until September and October.

Notions. There will be a variety of quilting rulers for purchase to make your projects so much easier. These are rulers that have been featured in my monthly Nifty Notions posts on the blog in addition to some new items.

Pattern/Books. You can never have enough patterns and books. I will be bringing some from new designers and you won't want to miss Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Company's magazine which will be available. I am definitely a fan! There will also be some great stitchery patterns if that's your thing. If you have questions about precuts and projects I will be available to help answer them.

Clearance fabric: I need to do some housekeeping and will have a few bolts of fabric on clearance for $6.00 a yard. These are not from years ago, they are fairly current and include Moda, Riley Blake, and AdornIt fabrics. Now that's something to sing about!

Quilt kits: I have been busy cutting quilt kits in case that's your thing, and I have some really fun ones from these fabric lines: Rocket Age, Sidewalks, Sasparilla, Down to Earth, Vintage Farmhouse, Witch Hazel, Splendor, Social Club, Chamberry, Grant Park .... and a few more.

Don't forget there will be drawings throughout the day for fun things like patterns, notions, and fabric! I have decided to give away a fantastic prize at the end of the Open House. Bring the ad from the Jefferson Star coming out on Wednesday, July 23rd, or the local shop where you might have picked one up and you will receive an extra ticket to be entered for a spectacular drawing at the end of the day! Bring a friend and receive one more! Make a purchase and receive another one!

Come check us out ... you just might find what you are looking for and now is the best time to start working on those holiday projects or anything else you might have a hankering to sew ;o)

So, I am off to finishing up, organizing and packing so I can head out for the drive to Idaho. Wish me luck!
Well -- how about I share a few sneak peeks here and there over the next couple of weeks! ;o)

I will be demonstrating the AMAZING Quick Curve Ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful. I have played with this ruler for the past year or so and recently had the opportunity to take a class from Jenny Pedigo and Helen Robinson at the Small Town Quilt Show in Midway, Utah. Their ruler and patterns are amazing. They have taken a tedious job of sewing with curves and made it quick and simple. Their quilts are fabulous!

This ruler does it all! Imagine a ruler that you cut curves with and square up your blocks all in one. (Trust me every quilter needs one).
Hope you don't mind the picture overload. I could seriously look at these quilts for hours on end. Love the design and the quilting! Visit their blog at http://sewkindofwonderful.blogspot.com/ for more inspiration. Jenny and Helen have opened up a whole new world with the Quick Curve Ruler. Whether your are a modern, contemporary or traditional quilter, the possibilities are endless.

The demonstration for the Quick Curve Ruler will take place at 1:00 p.m. on July 26th. There will also be a small trunk show as Jenny and Helen have graciously agreed to send some of their quilts for me to share with you. You are going to be wowed!!!

Evie~

P.S. Rulers and patterns will be available for purchase ;o)
Wow -- I'm really on a blogging roll lately! (If only I could keep it up -- but I know what this month has in store for Olie & Evie). And while we are on that note, I have a great big HUGE announcement. Rumor has it word is already spreading around town -- that would be the town of Lewisville, Idaho -- that there is going to be a HUGE Holiday Open House. Yep, the rumors are true, and here is the flyer to prove it.

So, there you have it ladies. A Holiday Open House at the Lewisville Community Center. There will be lots of seating and best of all air conditioning in case the weather is really warm. And if it's cold, well an even better reason to come on out and join us. Beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tiffany Jenkins of Tiny Seamstress Designs is going to WOW us by showing off her designs in a trunk show. Patterns are great, but there is nothing like seeing the finished project in person.

I (Evie) will be doing demonstrations at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. (and probably any time in between that). You are thinking what is she going to demo? Well, I hate to ruin the surprise, but I will be showing you how to use the Quick Curve Ruler created by Sew Kind of Wonderful that will change your life! And if that isn't enough, I will be showing you some brand new rulers for half square triangles (and other quilting designs) that will change your life forever! I am serious -- you will be really impressed and won't want to miss it. And last but not least, I will be doing a fun demonstration for a quick table runner (or however big you want to make it). And another hint -- I will have precuts for new fabric lines introduced at International Quilt Market that you won't see in stores until September/October ;o)

Quilts will be on display that I have made for the holidays -- and just for fun. Okay ... so you still need another reason to come out! Well, Danielle Andrews of Antique Recreation will be there with items for display and purchase. If you have not seen Danielle's work you will want to find out who she is. This woman can seriously take any old item and bring it back to life! She is amazing and I am always looking for a project for her to do for me because she's that good. So if you are in the mood for a new piece of furniture or some cool decoration you will want to stop by.

We will be at the Community Center from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. So just to recap ... Trunk Show, demos, notions, patterns, fabric, quilt kits, furniture and decorations .... (and don't forget drawings and prizes)!

Okay I've put it all out there but I still have one more card to play ... my sister, Julie, has offered to help me with the refreshments. Well that should start your mouth watering right there! Cookies, cakes, who knows what else she might come up with ...

I think that's all. See you on the 26th!

Evie~
I am incredibly thankful when Independence Day comes around. It is always fun to celebrate with family and friends, going to the celebration in little Menan, Idaho (town is small, celebration is huge), games, vendors, displays, parade, fireworks, etc. ... I have my list ready of items to pack up tonight to take home and it's growing line by line ;o)

But, even more important to me this time of year are my sons. My oldest son, Trevor, a whopping 25 years of age now, is a member of the Idaho Army National Guard. He (and his darling little family) have sacrificed greatly with their time and talents for our country. Austin (20 years) who is now in the Navy, is attending nuclear school in South Carolina.
I can sew and quilt for hours on end, but there is never a day goes by that I don't think of my sons and how much I love and appreciate them. They are two amazing young men and I am a very proud mother!!

Now that these pictures are out there for all to see and I will be one DEAD mother when a particular son finds out about this, I may as well offer a fabric sale. It's hot outside and the last thing you may want to do is think about fabric but I have a great stash builder sale. Visit my etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/shop/OlieandEvie?ref=pr_shop_more and enter the coupon code "beattheheat15" -- it is good for 15% discount on your purchase of $20.00 or more. Offer is good through July 7th!
I am in the process of preparing the kits and there will only be a few available in the original fabrics (after that substitutions may have to be made). The kits will come in one bundle with all of the required fabric to complete the top of the project (binding and backing not included) for all 6 projects. Each month I will send to the customers who purchase the kit the pattern to complete their project (July, August, September, October, November and December). The first pattern I will be sending out is "Meandering".

If you are interested in purchasing a kit or have additional questions, please e-mail me at olieandevie@gmail.com. The cost of the kit will be $153.00 + shipping (approximately $12.00 flat rate). These kits will be sold on a first come/first serve basis.

Let the sewing begin!
I always try to feature a product that I stock in my shop -- this one isn't in yet, but I will be carrying it soon ;o) The ruler is amazing!!! You can make lots of star points in no time at all and piece your blocks together without having to use a "y" seam.

You simply sew strips together, cut them with a 45 degree angle ruler, use the ruler to trim them, and sew the star points together as shown into squares, sew the squares together, and trim again.

My blocks are a work in progress and the quilt won't be completed for a while. I am using a variety of scraps from a few different fabric lines by Bonnie & Camille. I want to add some pieces from their new line "Miss Kate" coming out in August -- it will be a bit "scrappy" which I love!
The blocks will be sewn together with sashing pieces and posts in between them. The ruler has very clear instructions for stars in a variety of sizes, and also includes a free pattern. Below is an example of the free pattern and various size stars.
I'd better get back to sewing now ... lots to do and not enough time!
It is mid-June, I have not posted my May Nifty Notion, so I will make it my June Nifty Notion and you will be seeing it soon. Let me start by saying I do not have enough hours in the day to accomplish (and post) everything I want to. So, let me share a little bit about what I have been doing!

If you haven't noticed, I have lots of new fabric in the shop and more to come! I have been expanding and it's so much fun -- and so crazy at the same time. I try to look at each line individually and picture something that would be fun to make out of it for a sample or to give my customer's ideas if they don't have something in mind. There is too much to keep up with, but I do have a finish to share.

Sweet Harmony arrived a while ago and it was a priority on my list to try something different with. I ran across the Bye Bye Birdie pattern by Tiny Seamstress Designs a while back and knew that was the pattern for me. Can I just say I LOVE this pattern! Tiffany has very well written instructions and this pattern was so easy to work with. Not to mention, Tiffany designs and lives in my neck of the woods -- Rigby, Idaho!!

Here is the pattern --

First off I decided I would use something other than a white background. I see so many other quilts out there who try colors and I wanted to experiment a little bit so I used a grey background, Zen Grey by Moda. Overall, I am quite pleased with my finished project. I am not good with a camera and hope to get some better photos soon but if I wait for a better photo to post -- well we all know -- it will never happen. Hopefully you can picture a much better image of this quilt than what you see here.

It is larger than it looks, about 76 x 76 and difficult for me to get the entire quilt in a photo, the top couple of blocks look a little washed out but they really aren't, it's the lighting. Here is a close up of a block that also showcases the quilting better.

I washed it for that soft crinkly look that I love so much. This would be equally as cute with the pink prints in Amy Hamberlin's line of fabric, Sweet Harmony! Amy lives in Rigby, Idaho also and is a doll! Love her! Love Tiffany's design!

I am getting ready to go to Small Town Quilt Show at the end of June and will definitely be taking some photos to post as I will be attending several trunk shows put on by designers.

Here is the link if you have an interest in attending ... http://smalltownquiltshow.blogspot.com/
Unfortunately I am unable to attend on Thursday, but have filled as much of Friday and Saturday as I can with classes. April Rosenthal is teaching and recently released a brand new line of fabric at International Quilt Market called "Best Day Ever" and Amy Ellis is also teaching and her new line is called "Modern Neutrals", both of these designers were picked up by Moda. I love Jenny and Helen's ruler and patterns for the Quick Curve Ruler and will be learning from them personally ... and I hope to meet Sherri McConnell because I love her blog and designs as well. I could just bust I'm so excited!

So there is my June -- I will post my Nifty Notion -- because I just love what I have been working on with it! And then it will be July and I hope to have a couple of exciting announcements to share in July! So ... stay tuned ....
Olie and Eviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07888925950530108505noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7799675116034947984.post-92201125190095413412014-05-22T12:15:00.000-07:002014-05-22T12:15:00.692-07:00Blogs I Follow and TechnologySo I have been trying to do some updates to my blog and can I just say "technology and I don't mix". I love to share what's new and what I am working on, but in the course of making changes to the blog I lost a bit of valuable information. I have been adding a label called "Blogs I Follow" which I had an was working on, but I deleted it! Yep -- just one little click of a button that I didn't mean to click on and it was all gone ;o( I shed a few tears, threw my laptop on the ground (just kidding) and am starting over.

You might be asking -- why does this matter? Well, the reason is, the Blogs I Follow are links to many of the blogs that I <strike>stalk</strike> get much of my inspiration from. These ladies are AMAZING designers. They create beautiful fabrics and patterns. So, when it comes time for me to order fabric for my shop, I look to see what new designs they have created and what projects they are working on. From what little I have been teaching and selling, quilt kits seem like a path I want to head in for my shop. WHY -- well it's because you get your fabric all in one stash for your project. If you shop online you don't have to worry about buying a fat quarter here and there or background somewhere else, it will all come together in one neat little pile with the pattern! Take a deep breath I will still be carrying yardage and precuts too.

International Quilt Market was last week in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I was not able to attend, however, here are just a few of the fabrics and patterns introduced that I will be carrying in the shop this coming fall.
I will have at least 2 quilts kits available in this line --
and it's a great "GUY" quilt.

And this fabric paired with a contemporary quilt design is gorgeous.
I promise when I can find a photo to share made from this fabric you will fall in love!

I have many more to come, including a kit I am working on right now from Amy Hamberlin's fabric Sweet Harmony paired with a Tiny Seamstress Designs pattern -- it's going to be adorable! (My favorite part of this is that both of these wonderful talented ladies live in my hometown of Rigby, Idaho!

Sew -- bear with me as I attempt to get my blog updated -- you can click on the link to the Blogs I Follow and see many of these quilts (AND MORE!) and be inspired with me. Have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.
I hope wherever you are that spring has arrived (although that is likely not the case with the weather we have had around the country lately).

I actually have two featured notions this month. They are the Five & Dime Ruler and Spare Change Ruler by Kansas Troubles. Kansas Troubles has been a favorite fabric of mine for a long time (I note that they are releasing another new line at Spring Market in May)!

The Five & Dime Ruler is meant to be used with a layer cake and charm pack. You can pick any fabric combination you choose. Of course Kansas Troubles fabrics always blend and coordinate well, but if those colors aren't your cup of tea try mixing and matching the fabrics you love!

The ruler helps you center the 5" square perfectly on the 10" square, you do a small bit of raw edge applique and then you cut the 10" square into quarters and once again the ruler helps you accomplish that perfectly!! From there you pair them back together with other blacks and get a simple and easy project that looks like you spent unlimited hours! It seems like a very versatile tool and a must have for any quilter ;o)

The second ruler is the Spare Change ruler, which is equally fun only you use a 5" square and the mini charms (2 1/2" squares) and use the same technique. Fun for a smaller project (or as large as you want). (I am thinking a project out of Kate Spain's Solstice since I have both charms and mini charms in my shop would be a great Christmas table runner).

As always, your projects are only limited by your imagination!

The book "Loose Change" by Kansas Troubles has additional projects ... I wanted to try something myself, but the books and rulers immediately sold out. More are on their way!

I can hardly wait to run my hands over these bolts of fabric. They are lovely. Once again, Amy has done a beautiful job designing this line.
I was able to do some quilting on a couple of Amy's samples, I was so nervous but was pleased with how the quilting turned out! I loved seeing Amy's designs and it was so hard not to share. Sew Edgy was one I was able to quilt, one in the aqua color way and the other one in pink.
I used the pattern from Camille Roskelley's book "Simply Retro" and made this fun and boyish Churn Dash block from her pattern "Baby Love". It's simple, one large block! Fast, easy and fun. Simply put, I don't think you have to spend hours piecing to come up with something cute for a new addition to the family or for a gift.
I quilted it with a loopy allover quilting -- kind of like a scribble and love it! The texture is awesome -- it's perfect!!

Fabrics used in this quilt are from the line "Treasure Map" for Riley Blake Designs. What little boy wouldn't love some little boats and skulls! Fabric (and kits) are available in my etsy shop.
I have another one in mind to make using some yardage from April Showers using another one of Camille's patterns -- and can hardly wait, but right now I am getting caught up on quilting for customers and sewing! Enjoy your weekend!
